I'm Such A Slacker

Please watch this video and I dare you not to get inspired...

There is no force on earth stronger than the human spirit and this video is proof positive to that statement... A little history, twenty five years ago, in an attempt to prove just exactly how stupid I was, I dove off a boat and damaged my spinal cord... The truth of the matter was that I was out of control and God has ways of reminding us of that... Extremely long (and somewhat boring) story, I was told I would pretty much be on the menu right beside the item "Vegetable Of The Day"... I'll never know if that was meant to challenge me (AKA piss me off) or to spur me to work harder, but I wasn't about to take it lying down... (no pun intended, well maybe a little) I eventually walked again with the use of crutches like the ones in the video... Although it was not a viable means of transportation, two years later I did go back and walk the 1.5 mile fun run at the annual "City of Ft. Myers River Run", the last 10 kilometer race I ever ran... It took me a little over 4 hours, about 45 minutes longer than my slowest marathon (26.2 miles) but just as rewarding...

So why do I consider myself a slacker? I haven't been on my crutches in two years, I've gone from using my stationary bike (you really don't want me on the streets in anything other than my Chrysler) 6-7 days a week to once or twice a month... Well, that's about to end... I'm never going to run again, or stand on my head, but six weeks from now I'm going to be in a lot better shape...

Especially if we are going to...

Kick Obama Out 2012...

    1. Thank you TCL, my goals aren't as lofty as they once were, but I've been using every excuse in the book not to achieve them... After watching Arthur, they seem a little week...

    2. Maybe as you see improvement, you'll get more motivated to push further. Just don't get discouraged if improvement takes longer than you planned. Like you said...you've been out of practice.

    3. I'll use my marathon approach, start slow, then taper off...

  3. While there is no comparasin (bad spelling) between your sitiuation and mine, I'd like to mention that I've lost 23 pounds since December by adjusting my diet and adding some exercise. I know that once you set your mind to it you will reach your goal, just as you have in the past, and then some.
